What each name means
Wham-O uses Hacky Sack® for its branded products. Other makers, including Dragonfly, make footbags. We use footbag for every Dragonfly product.
The word footbag also names the sport. Circle play, freestyle, net, and consecutive kicks all use footbags.
Why people mix up the names
The Hacky Sack® brand became familiar through years of casual circle play. People sometimes use the brand name in casual speech when they mean a footbag. That habit does not make it the general product name.
What Dragonfly makes
We make hand-sewn footbags for circle play, stalls, freestyle practice, schools, camps, and events. Our product names describe the panel count, fill, and playing feel of each footbag.
